Congratulations to Martin Burgess on his recent success at Rescue 2008, the World Surf Life Saving Champs in Germany. He managed, against stiff competiton, two bronze medals in the pool event - Manikin carry with fins & Manikin tow with fins in the 60 - 64 age group. Very well done Martin. CONGRATULATIONS TO THE 29 NIPPERS FROM THE CLUB WHO ATTENDED THE NIPPER NATIONAL CHAMPS AT SAUNTON SANDS IN N DEVON ON SAT/SUN 9/10 AUGUST 08 - 7th PLACE OVERALL OUT OF 17 CLUBS AND 3 GOLD, 2 SILVER AND 1 BRONZE MEDAL. Despite the weather and sea conditions which were awful on both days our nippers and their Parents did us proud. Thank you to everyone who helped out. Medal winners were: - 9 yr old Sophie Morris-Gold for 1km run; 9 yr old Morva Hughes-Gold in Board race; 10 yr old Hannah Cutler-Lukes-Gold for Surf race; 9 yr old Canaan Smitham-Silver in Beach Flags; 11 yr old Brittany Smaldon-Silver in Golden Nipper; 10 yr old Alec Fuca-Bronze in beach Flags. Because of the sea conditions and lack of time none of the team events in the water took place. PARTICIPATION MEDALS WERE GIVEN TO TRACI AND THESE WILL BE PRESENTED AT OUR NEXT NIPPER SESSION ON SUNDAY 17 AUGUST. SEE TEAM PHOTO ON PHOTO GALLERY PAGE.

Congratulations and very well done to the Junior/Seniors and Masters from the Club who attended the Cornish Championships at Holywell Bay on 16/17 August 2008. The weather was really bad on the Saturday and not much better on the Sunday and despite the team nearly getting hypothermia many good results were achieved. We are still waiting for the Intermediate (17-19) and Senior results but here are the final overall placings for the Juniors (13-16) and Masters (30+). Juniors (only 8 of them) 5th overall with 196 pts - boys 4th with 132 pts and girls 6th with 64 pts. Masters (only 9 of them) 2nd overall with 317 pts - men 5th with 108 pts and ladies 2nd with 209 pts. Medal winners were: - JUNIORS - 13 yr olds:Matt Trewhella with Gold in Ski race, Silvers in Surf and Board race and Bronzes in Beach Sprint & Beach Flags. 14 yr olds:Jordan Roberts with Golds in Board race, Ski race & Beach Flags and Silver in Beach Sprint; Thomas Onley with Bronze in Surf race and Emily Corin with Bronze in Ski race. Under 16 Tube rescue - Silver for Emily Corin and Amy Jolly. MASTERS - 30-34: Ceri Harvey (nee Drew) with Gold in 1km run, Silvers in Ski race, Beach Flags and Beach Sprint and Bronzes in Surf and Board races. 35-39: Trish Merrett with Golds in Surf, Board & Ski races, Diamond Lady and 1km run & Bronze in Beach Sprint; Traci Parker with Silvers in Surf, Board & Ski races and Bronze in Beach Flags; Dave Parker with Gold in Iron Man; Alan Roberts with Gold in Beach Flags. 40-44: Gill Onley with Silver in Beach Flags and Bronze in Beach Sprint. 45-49: Carol Penberthy with Golds in Surf & Ski races and Diamond Lady, Silvers in Board race, Beach Sprint and 1km run. 50-54: Mike Penberthy with Gold in Surf race, Silvers in Board race and Iron Man & Bronze in 1km run. 55+: Martin Burgess with Gold in Beach Flags, Silvers in Board race & Beach Flags and Bronze in Surf race. Senior Ladies Beach Relay: Bronze for Gill Onley, Trish Merrett, Carol Penberthy & Ceri Harvey.

A very very small team from the Club attended the Masters National Champs at Portreath on Thursday/Friday 21/21 August 2008 mainly due to the fact that it was held during the working week! Those that went managed to do very well and win some medals. 30-34: Ceri Harvey ? Golds in Beach Flags & 1km run, Silver in Beach Sprint. 45-49: Pete Carr-Silvers in Board race & Iron Man, Bronzes in Surf race & Ski race. 50-54 ? Bronze in Ski race. 55+ - Martin Burgess ? Silver in Surf race. Other team member was Dave Parker. Even though there were only 5 in the team they came 8th overall out of the 17 clubs taking part-great result.
