Report from Bankside Joan's much admired plate of tiny knitted cakes stood proudly on a plinth displayed amidst over 90 works by Artists in the Bankside Gallery last night. Nestling beside the Thames in the shadow of Tate Modern under the watchful eyes of a pair of roosting Peregrine Falcons perched high above on the stack, friends, supporters, admirers and Artists jostled in the tightly packed prestigious Gallery. Milling and munching shortbread and canapies, listening to the jazz musicians, admiring and chatting, washed down with copious amounts of tea and then wine, we waited in anticipation. Tension mounted as 11 Art Awards were made to the winning Artists by eminent supporting bodies in the Retirement business field and Art World. Sheddies, amassed around Joan, listened as the final and best Award of £1000 was announced. The Winner was our very own Joan. The applause is still ringing in our ears. The reaction was in true Sheddie style and the press and photographers moved in to take their snaps.Joan was quietly ecstatic and we excitedly rode with her savouring every moment of her fame, with follow up interviews planned for today. 700 Artists had submitted their works of Art, 90 plus had been hung. The tiny plate of cakes won. We were so proud of Joan. Reported by Jackie Pearce 2/9/08
