Three more!

Mirja Dawson

Mirja loves textured textiles and creates these with the use of a variety yarns or weave structures. Her design source is the nature around her. Each changing season creates new things to study. She is inspired by the changes of colour and form of trees through the seasons; the textures of tree bark fascinate her; frost on the hillside or a blade of grass; and, lichen on trees or rocks all serve as design sources for her weaving. She enjoys experimenting and using unusual yarns such as felted yarns or paper yarn. Many of these She imports from her native Finland.

Caroles interest in weaving began three years ago when looking for a hobby to do in her fast approaching retirement. Already a member of the Eden Valley Guild of Spinners, Weavers and Dyers, she very quickly became hooked on weaving and has since completed an HNC in Handloom Textile Design at Bradford College. She is now planning new directions for her weaving. Carole became fascinated with the techniques for collapse fabrics during the Bradford course and is planning to do further work on this type of fabric. She is also a great fan of Theo Moorman wall hangings and has already begun to experiment with that technique. Carole hopes to develop her skills further using these, and other, techniques and look forward to an exciting and creative future in weaving.

Gill Dexter

All her adult life Gill has been interested in textiles, but in 1997 she began to fulfil a long held dream and bought her first loom. Having taught herself to weave with the aid of books, she attended some courses in London, before undertaking the Bradford Course in Handloom weaving and Design, graduating in 2004.All her handwoven textiles are individually designed - you will never meet anyone wearing the same scarf! She uses a variety of yarns, cotton, rayon, silk, wool and linen. Many yarns are handspun and hand dyed. Gills products include scarves, bags, cushion covers, table linen, hangings, throws or knee rugs and floor rugs.
