Nine Designer Weavers!
Frayed Edges consists of nine designer weavers who, in the summer of 2004, graduated together in Handloom Textile Design from Bradford College, which is the current evolution of the ?Bradford course? well known among members of the Spinning, Weaving and Dyeing community. The friendships we forged and the skills we acquired led to a determination to keep weaving together and thus Frayed Edges was born.
Our members are spread widely across Britain. This brings a wide variety of approach and style to our work adding interest and vibrancy to our exhibitions. We also have a wide range of experience, some of us have been weaving and selling items for several years whilst others are venturing into the market for the first time but all have achieved a high standard of skill and design ability. Apart from the 2004 summer exhibition at Bradford College which was very well received, as individuals we have also exhibited widely throughout the UK and Europe. Some of our number won awards with Bradford Textile Society Design Competition.
The aim of the group is to produce beautiful and imaginative woven textiles for both home use and fashion. We produce a wide range of hand woven items from wallhangings, rugs and throws to scarves, bags and wraps. We wish to promote awareness and appreciation of hand weaving and aim to produce an annual exhibition to promote and sell our products varying the venue each year to reflect our geographical spread. In this way we look forward to continuing our development as weavers and designers and anticipate an exciting and creative future. The nine members are: Kath Allen, Alison Daykin, Jane Deane, Mirja Dawson, Jill Dexter, Carole Dickens, Janice Moilliet, Jillian Morris and Tessa Smith.
